Manchester City fought back from an early deficit to beat Arsenal 2-1 at the Etihad Stadium, with Erling Haaland’s 65th-minute goal proving decisive in a thrilling Premier League match.
Arsenal arrived at the Etihad as league leaders, with 70 points from 32 games. Manchester City took second place, three points behind with a game in hand. Both teams went into the match in good form, setting up a fierce battle between England’s two best sides.
The match burst into life within seconds. Rayan Cherki fired Manchester City ahead in the 16th minute, picking up a loose ball and converting with a clinical finish. City looked dangerous early on, but Arsenal responded immediately.
Just two minutes later, in the 18th minute, Kai Havertz equalized for Arsenal. The German forward showed composure to find the back of the net, drawing the visitors level. The first exchanges had produced two goals in quick succession, setting a frantic tone.

In the second half, City increased the intensity. Manuel Guehi received a yellow card in the 60th minute, indicating an increase in tension on the pitch. City’s attacking play became more threatening as the half progressed.
Haaland broke the deadlock in the 65th minute, firing City ahead with a composed finish. The Norwegian forward’s goal was the game-winner, swinging the momentum decisively back to the home side. City’s attacking prowess eventually overwhelmed Arsenal’s resilience.
Arsenal pushed for an equalizer but couldn’t find the way. Both Gabriel and Haaland received yellow cards in the 83rd minute as tempers flared. Pep Guardiola received a yellow card in the 84th minute during a lively exchange on the sidelines.
City dominated the stats, registering a total of 15 shots compared to Arsenal’s nine. The home team had five shots on goal against Arsenal’s three. City’s expected goals stood at 1.41, while Arsenal’s came in at 1.52, showing that both teams created genuine chances.
Cherki impressed with an 8.5 rating and a goal, while O’Reilly earned an 8.2 for his midfield control. Havertz led Arsenal’s performers with a 7.3 rating despite the loss. The City keeper made just one save, reflecting his dominance.
The win takes Manchester City to 67 points from 32 games, closing the gap on leaders Arsenal to one point. City now have momentum going into their remaining games, while Arsenal must respond to retain their title.
