Yurav Premlall nearly ties Tiger Woods’ record in historic first DP World Tour win

Yurav Premlall just delivered one of the most dominant – and historic – performances the game has seen, capturing the 2026 Estrella Damm de Catalunya by 14 shots and setting a new record for the largest winning margin in DP World Tour history.

After his historic victory, Premlal reflected on his performance, saying, “I’ve worked so hard to get to this position and it’s so rewarding to finally see the results.”

However, the foundation for his historic victory was laid the day before. Premlal’s incredible 63 in the third round set a new course record and gave him a Course record price $50,000 (presented by Nexo). His round featured 10 birdies and a bogey, and sent him into Sunday at 19-under par, with nearest challenger Stefano Mazzoli five shots back.

From the start of the final round, it was clear that Premlal would not leave the field again in the contest. He made four birdies in his first five holes, quickly extending the lead and effectively securing his victory.

The defining moment came on the par-4 8th, where Premlal produced a magnificent chip birdie. As Premlal widened the gap, golf fans began to draw comparisons to Tiger Woods and his iconic 15-stroke victory at the 2000 US Open in Pebble beach. Woods’ 15-stroke victory counts as a PGA Tour and DP World Tour record.

Premlal extended his lead to 14 shots with back-to-back birdies on the 12th and 13th holes, and all eyes turned to him. A bogey on 14 narrowly reduced the gap to 13, but Premlal remained undeterred, responding with two solid pars.

Then came another moment of precision under control. Patient as ever, Premlal birdied the par-4 17th, restoring his lead to 14 shots. A final birdie on the par-5 18th sealed a closing 63—matching the record-setting score he had shot the day before.

While Premlal came close, he fell short of breaking Tiger’s record of 15 strikes. Shaun Norris held the lead to 14 shots with his final round 68 to finish 14 under.

However, Premlall still set two new records over the weekend: one for the largest winning margin in a non-major DP World Tour event and the course record at Real Club de Golf El Prat. A statement win for the 22-year-old in his first DP World Tour win.
