The 17-year-old sprinter becomes the second South African sprinter to sign with the Swiss sportswear brand, following Lythe Pillay.

On is proud to announce the signing of the three-time African Under-18 champion In the corner “Smiley” Manavhela to its roster of global athletes. 17-year-old South African sprint sensation who is trained by the famous athletics pipeline Kurro Hazeldyan under elite coach Thabo Matebedijoins On’s expanding team of world-class track and field icons.
Manavhela has quickly established himself as one of the world’s most explosive young sprinters. He turned the global circuit around, lowering his personal bests to 10.14 seconds in the 100m and 20.45 seconds in the 200m. His status as a rising international star has been cemented on the continental stage 2025 CAA Africa U18 & U20 Championship, where he claimed three gold medals: 100m, 200m and medley relay titles. With a combination of raw speed, a deep work ethic and an infectious positive attitude, he earned the nickname “Smiley”, Manavhela represents the future of global sport.
His journey to track began with a turning point in his athletic career. Initially focusing his talents on rugby, Manavela made a conscious decision to leave the field to take immediate control of his own destiny.
“I got into speed sports after deciding to retire from rugby,” says Manavhela. “I felt like I could have a bigger impact on the track, so I had the opportunity to run. What started as a choice has turned into pushing my limits and seeing how far I can take my passion in the sport.”
