Adidas has unveiled its lightest and fastest shoe ever, the Adizero Adios Pro 3.
Weighing just 97g, the shoe is the culmination of three years of research and is 30% lighter than its predecessor, and is said to improve running economy by 1.6%.
Set to debut on Sebastian Soi’s feet at Sunday’s London Marathon, the shoe redefines the interplay of high-tech foam midsoles and carbon fiber plates.
“Our goal was double-digit scale with better performance than we’ve ever hadsaid Stefan Scholten, vice president of product at adidas.

At the pinnacle of the Adizero franchise, the Evo 3 features a number of ground-breaking innovations designed to unlock maximum speed and performance;
- Next generation Lightstrike Pro Evo foam – Adidas’ lightest and most responsive foam to date, weighing almost 50% less than previous iterations. With a 39mm stack, it maximizes cushioning, propulsion and energy return with every stride.
- Rethinking Carbon Technology ENERGY! – a revolution in integrated carbon design that redefines how stiffness and drive are delivered in a super shoe.
- An ultra-lightweight top and precision detailing, inspired by retracted and engineered technologies found in kitesurfing sails, the top provides a sense of weightlessness with precise support.
- More effective outsole design. on the bottom is strategically placed Continentalâ„¢ rubber that provides reliable traction at high speeds without sacrificing weight.
Adidas running grandmaster Patrick Nava says:The creation of the Adizero Adios Pro Evo 3 pushed us to think differently right from the start. We weren’t just trying to improve on what we had done before, we wanted to see how far we could go. We went through more than a dozen iterations, working closely with our athletes and testing everywhere from our labs in Herzogenaurach to high altitude camps in Kenya and Ethiopia. At that level, every detail really matters. we measured things to the nearest nanogram. It’s been a long process, but it’s resulted in something that we believe really changes what a race day shoe can be.”

The shoe will be released in a very limited edition, with aspiring runners able to sign up for a chance to own a pair starting April 23rd. This will be followed by a wider release for the fall marathon season.
