Titleist says that in their testing, players using a Titleist AIM offering are 35% more accurate in aligning their shots to the target putt path. That can be the difference between a tricky 8-footer going into the hole and going out to miss a par.
“Interestingly, AIM is most valuable when you’re away from the hole,” said Frederick Waddell, Director of Golf Ball Product Management. “On a four-footer, you might be OK lining up your ball with a standard fairway because it’s an easy putt. But as you return to 12 feet or 16 feet, you can be up to a foot on either side of the hole as the dispersion cone gets wider. The data really illustrates who likes their ball. help them be more accurate to the green.”

Titleist conducted a test with a group of golfers to determine not only which alignment marks performed best, but also to compare them to a standard side stamp you see on every production golf ball. Since over 60% of Titleist tour employees use some form of alignment marking, there had to be a reason why. When subjected to a series of alignment requirements, their group of players saw a 35% increase in accuracy when lining up their golf ball with the target target. By measuring alignment consistency from left-to-right variability, Titleist discovered which marks were most applicable to players who would play different types of golf balls. Generally, the ProV1 user sticks to their performance layup, a strong extended line on the ball or a straighter extended forward layup that provides three tight lines.
