Conor Benn called Golden Goose to Zuffa Move

“Conor is the golden goose,” Nigel Benn told BoxingScene.

Nigel calling Conor the golden goose is definitely more of a prideful promotional line than a reflection of Conor’s actual standing with the die-hard American crowd. To many American fans, he is still the nepo baby who hasn’t proven he can hang with the top level fighters.

Benn’s “golden goose” status in 2026 is purely financial and geographic, not necessarily based on his P4P talent. His fans are in the UK, not the US. Many younger fans are unfamiliar with Benn’s famous father, Nigel.

Conor is a “golden goose” because Zuffa Boxing and the Saudi-backed Sela are willing to overpay for him to be their flagship name. He’s not because he’s selling out the MGM Grand or Madison Square Garden.

Dana White needs a star to launch this new Zuffa Boxing era. Benn has the looks, the household name, and the UK following to act as the bridge between the old guard and this new Netflix/Zuffa model.

Nigel’s “Golden goose” claim relies entirely on the names Conor calls out: Ryan Garcia, Devin Haney and Shakur Stevenson. These fighters call out Benn because Zuffa is writing the checks. For them, Conor is a low-risk payday. They don’t fear his power after seeing him go life and death with Regis Prograis on April 11th.

Nigel also said he would welcome a third fight with Chris Eubank Jr at super middleweight, who would back Conor to win again if the rivalry is revived.

It’s the biggest secure payday in the UK. The fights of Shakur Stevenson, Ryan Garcia, Devin Haney or Ennis probably end in a one-sided beating of Conor. To see a faded Eubank Jr. fighting at a higher weight is a circus act that pays like a world title fight.
