Should the former lions be allowed to recover amateur status?
The last champion between Ami was the guest in this week’s episode of Podcast Subpar of GolfAnd part of the conversation focused on that controversial topic.
Mid-AM in the US is one of the USGA signature championships, and is for amateurs 25 years or older with 2.4 or lower handicaps indexes. Anydo a professional has the ability to reapply for amateur status – as long as it is approved by the USA. Although the fact that 14 of the last 16 players in the middle of this year were the former project did not sit well with everyone.
But Holtz would like to offer an opinion to those who think that the former should not be given amateur status.
“Sh.ba Mid-am was essentially built for this in my opinion. … I am a man who works, I got a couple of children, I have a woman, how, for me, in terms of competition, what else will I play?” Holtz said. “My Bloomington City event Normal City, a city with 160,000 people? Holtz, 38, played college basketball in Illinois State, followed Pro Golf for six years and recovered amateur status in 2024. He is now a realtor and lives in Bloomington, sick.
“If you really want to get into the logistics of all, 2010 to 2014, I played full -time, of course if you want to call it full -time – working, traveling yourself, doing everything yourself with little help from my father,” he said. “But we are losing money. I kept (my professional status), but I had flexibility in the work I had to be able to go play with hope,” Hey, woman, I will go play this weekend; Hope I can bring some dollars home. “
There is no set of rules for any professional trying to recover amateur status why. USGA reviews each application and makes a decision based on things such as career life and success.
Although Subpar Drew Stoltz’s co-worker said it is not a perfect system.
“There is a period of time spent where you did 10 years ago as your job, it doesn’t matter,” Stoltz said. “There is a point where it is almost irrelevant. I am not saying the first year outside after playing pro you should be able to play amateur events, but after starting to work and have children and are playing once a week, it is like, yes, nine years ago I played a lot of golf, but many have happened since then.”
Added Holtz: “Rules are also rules, are you not? Follow the rules and it is what it is.”
