Tottenham Hotspur had a quiet summer transfer window, but where they invested heavily was in young talent.
Dominic Solanke was the only big senior arrival of the summer for the Lilywhites. However, Spurs still spent big to land four teenage signings in Archie Gray, Wilson Odobert, Lucas Bergvall and Yang Min-hyeok, the latter remaining on loan in South Korea until January.
And Spurs haven’t cheapened the wages of their young talents either.
according to capologyArchie Gray is the second-highest paid teenager in the Premier League, with the former Leeds star on £75,000-a-week, although that is still £40,000-a-week ahead of Man Utd’s best teenager Leny Yoro.
spurs they also have Odobert in fifth place on £25,000-a-week, while Swedish midfielder Bergvall earns £15,000-a-week.
Archie Gray’s eye-catching start at Spurs
Given the talent at Ange Postecoglou’s disposal, you’d be forgiven for thinking Gray would have to be very patient as he waits for opportunities at Spurs.
However, the England youth international has made a positive start to life in North London.
Gray has already made four substitute appearances in the Premier League, clocking up 33 minutes so far.
And in the cups, the 18-year-old has been even more successful, playing the full 90 minutes in the Europa League and EFL Cup for Tottenham against Qarabag, Ferencvaros and Coventry City respectively.
Gray was praised for his versatility during his Leeds days and has already played as a centre-back, right-back and central midfielder for Spurs this season. Against Qarabagstarted at center back before switching to left back.
“It’s amazing how well he adapts and is able to bring his game wherever we put him,” coach Postecoglou said.
Next up for Spurs is a Europa League clash with AZ Alkmaar in which Gray will wait another 90 minutes.
