One of the things I love most about my job is finding hidden gems.
As a company, we test hundreds (if not thousands) of golf products each year. Of course, we don’t have time to talk about more than a handful of them.
We focus on winners, and rightly so. But every now and then, something happens that is too good not to share. And often, products like this don’t fit well into our most demanding testing anyway, so it gives people like me a chance to share some first-hand experience outside of the data.
Recently, Sun Mountain Hometown Golf Bag it came across my desk and I’ve told anyone who will listen that it’s the cutest bag I’ve ever used.
Seriously, I’d consider parting with every other golf bag in my closet for this sexy SOB. If I could only choose one, it would probably be this one.
Because it perfectly combines fashion and function. It looks like muscles. Sex and wit.
Better built
It starts with the build quality. of Hometown bag it’s made from an uber-premium waxed canvas. There are sleek brass hardware and some pebbled leather accents to tie it all together.
Each bag is individually numbered (there are only 1,776 of them) which is a nice touch.
The feel of the hand on the canvas is so, so good. Bland, not brilliant. And very durable, too. It’s one of those bags that you know will break in and get better with age.
She is a seer
However, a bag is just as good if it’s functional. Luckily for me, it’s packed with lots of pockets, a durable, strong zipper. It’s a lot smaller than my current bag, the Vessel Player IV Pro, but I still had no problem fitting all my gear.
It also has full length dividers, something not every bag has. Next time you’re shopping for a bag, push a stick to the bottom and move it around.
Many bags look like they have full-length dividers, but they’re often not sewn at the bottom and, in turn, don’t create individual pockets for each club.
Getting the limited edition right
You know what I’m tired of? Limited edition gadgets that are nothing more than ink. This is not it. Mountain of the Sun created an elevated product with elevated materials and it all works together for an elevated experience.
So remind me again why no one is talking about this masterpiece?
They won’t say it, but I will. You’d be hard-pressed to find a better golf bag right now. Period.
