Inter dropped points at the Estadio Olimpico Grande Torino as Torino fought back from two goals down to earn a 2-2 draw. Nikola Vlašić’s 79th-minute penalty salvaged a point for the home side after goals from Marcus Thuram and Yann Bisseck had put the visitors in control.
Inter arrived in Turin as the runaway leaders of Serie A, sitting at the top of the table with 78 points from 33 games. Torino, meanwhile, were in 13th place with just 40 points and needed a result to move away from the relegation battle. The visitors come into the match on an impressive run, having won their last three games without conceding.
Inter made their dominance count early. In the 23rd minute, Marcus Thuram broke the deadlock and gave the league leaders a commanding start. The away team controlled possession from the opening whistle, dictating the tempo with their superior passing accuracy and movement.
Torino struggled to get a foothold in the first half. The home side managed just 37 percent possession and found it difficult to penetrate Inter’s defence. Their goalkeeper made just one save as Inter’s attacking play created limited clear-cut chances despite ball control.
The second half began with Inter extending their lead. Yann Bisseck shot in the 61st minute to make it 2-0. The defender’s goal looked to have settled the game, with Inter’s defensive balance and attacking quality seemingly too much for Torino to overcome.
However, Torino came alive. Giovanni Simeone scored a goal in the 70th minute, giving the home side new hope. The goal galvanized the crowd and sparked a remarkable comeback attempt from the home team.
Nine minutes later, Vlašić stepped up to convert a penalty in the 79th minute, leveling the scores at 2-2. The kick-off was the turning point, with Torino refusing to accept defeat despite being outplayed for long periods.
Both teams struggled for a winner in the closing stages. Inter’s superior quality kept them dangerous, but Torino’s resilience kept them competitive. The final whistle came with neither team able to find a breakthrough.
The statistics revealed Inter’s dominance in possession and passing accuracy. The visitors completed 597 passes with 90 percent accuracy compared to Torino’s 344 passes at 81 percent. Inter also recorded five shots on target to Torino’s two, although the home side created 2.46 expected goals compared to Inter’s 1.46.
Federico Dimarco starred for Inter with an 8.3 rating and two assists. Manuel Akanji and Bisseck provided solid defensive contributions, while Vlašić led Torino’s efforts with a 7.5 rating and crucial penalty conversion.
The draw was a major setback for Inter, who remain at the top with 78 points, but their lead over second place is reduced. Torino gained valuable ground in their fight against relegation, edging closer to safety with an important point earned with character and determination.
