If you’re wondering how to best prepare for your next round on the greens, Drew Stoltz has a simple routine worth copying.
In the last episode of Emergency 9the Subpar co-host shared how he attends his appearance before each round.
First up: straight shorts, which he said help him figure out his tendencies on a given day.
“I like to start with just a few short straight shots,” he said. “All I’m focusing on is ball placement and layup. Speed ​​doesn’t matter. I want a straight putt just so I can get some feedback. If it goes to the right side of the hole, I know I can steer a little right. Same with the left side.”
Stoltz said he likes to see five or 10 short shots before moving to the midrange.
“I like to work on a circle of about 6 to 8 feet,” he said. “That way, I’m going to get shots that are right to left, I’m going to get shots that are uphill, downhill, left to right, you get it all. It just gives you a good idea of ​​the pace of the green and how hard you have to hit it on your set line.”
After completing a lap around the hole, Stoltz moves into the final phase of his warm-up: the delay.
“Sometimes I’ll aim for the edge of the green, sometimes I’ll aim for a hole, whatever I can,” he said. “I just hit like, 40 feet straight, uphill, downhill, just to get the tempo up for the longer shots. After that, I try not to think too much and go for the first tee.”
