This is what happened to Takomo in 2026.

of Takomo Iron 101 MKII won our game-enhancing iron test. For a DTC iron brand, this is a big deal. But the full story is more interesting than “Takomo won”.

We tested Takomo irons in multiple categories this year, and the performance wasn’t the same across the board. Several models were distinguished for accuracy and points. Others were not as strong in the distance or in the overall standings.

WHEREAS Takomo Iron 101 MKII was the best overall game-improving iron in our 2026 test, it wasn’t the longest. In fact, it was about a yard and a half shorter than the test average for carry distance. The ball speed was also slightly below the test average.

Where 101 MKII divides itself was in scoring categories.

The fair putt percentage was better than the test average, the approach was slightly better and the green percentage in regulation was also higher.

Takomo positions 101 MKII as a game-improving iron built for maximum forgiveness and distance. Our data supports the forgiveness part. It also supports the idea that this iron helped players hit more greens. The distance part needs a little context. It wasn’t short, but it wasn’t a distance leader in our test.

The best fit here is the golfer looking for help keeping the ball in play and hitting more functional shots. If you’re buying a game-improving iron just because you want the longest option, this isn’t it. If you want the one that performed best overall in our game improvement test, 101 MKII won that place.
