If you read our article from last year, you have most of the details. of RORS· PROTO is built around P·730 form Rory has been playing since 2017. 1025 carbon steel multi-step forged. Channel milled horizontally in the cavity. TW2 grooves (same as Tiger’s P·7TW) instead of the MX9 grooves found on the P·730. Thinner top line on irons 7 and 8 to match Rory’s visual preference.
The set is 4-PWbuilt to your specifications. If you want to play exactly what Rory majors in, this is the way to go.
The “new” news.
What’s really different this year? Marketing copy, mostly. Last year was a career Grand Slam. This year’s hook relies on “History Repeats Itself!” and Rory Augusta’s back-to-back win. The exclamation point is doing a lot of work.
TaylorMade is clear that these are the “same irons” as last year. No new engraving that we’ve noticed, no “back-to-back” back treatment, no limited commemorative detailing beyond the ordering window itself. If you missed out last year and waited, here’s your second chance.
RORS TP5 and TP5x golf balls are back as well, both at $62.99.
TP5 makes sense. It’s the ball that Rory actually plays. The TP5x is a slightly more confusing proposition. Rory doesn’t play TP5x. But Rory fans who play the TP5x still want a dozen with Rory’s branding on it, and TaylorMade won’t turn down the business. Player recognition + brand = money, money, money.
