Abby Steiner entered the arena as a professional athlete in the 2022 outdoor season. An exciting sprinter and brilliant relay player, Abby performed well at the World Championships in Eugene, then embarked on several years of injuries, surgeries and, frankly, a nightmare for an elite athlete.

When I posted the archived segment below, Abby Steiner was a total rock star, and she set the record for most downloads in history, which she still holds. Abby Steiner was hugely popular with 14-22 year olds around the world.

However, in sports marketing, signing athletes is like gambling in a casino. Athletes get injured. Athletes burn out. Some overcome these injuries, some don’t. The story of an athlete going from high school to college to pro almost always includes periods of injury. Abby Steiner suffered from injuries.
a. Double Haglund’s surgery, which means removing bone marrow from the back of Abby’s heels.
b. Surgery for repair Achilles injury.
c. A few bone stress injuries.
Pain and anxiety forced Abby Steiner go out for tune-up races 2024 Olympic Trials. Keen observers knew that Abby Steiner posed a difficult task. 2024 Olympic Trials. Eby finished sixth in the 200 meters, clearly missing the team. Abby could barely walk after 4 races and was unable to walk normally in her home for weeks.

In August 2025, on social networks, Abby Steiner stated that he was due to injuries withdrawal from elite athletics for indefinitely and will focus on a master’s degree in exercise science in hopes that his body can heal. Healing takes time, both physically and mentally.
I met Abby Steiner’s parents in 2022. they were overjoyed that their daughter had secured a Sponsored by PUMA and that her dream of becoming an elite athlete was coming true. PUMA, Abby Steiner and its management Everyone hoped for the best when this started, but unfortunately it just didn’t go Abby Steiner’s way.
April 24, 2026 Abby Steiner presented product liability claim in: Supreme Court of Massachusetts. This was a sensational case, litigating PUMA North America, Inc. and: Mercedes-Benz Granada Prix Ltd., the company it owns Mercedes F1 team. The claim is that PUMA’s Carbon Fiber Plate and Nitrofoam technology it is “fundamentally flawed, unsafe, and unreasonably dangerous.” Steiner is seeking $1.25 million for medical expenses, lost career earnings, emotional distress and, in legal terms, “loss of full enjoyment of life and disfigurement.”
Case number 2681CVO1095 has been entered Middlesex County, Superior Court, Massachusetts.
This case will be closely watched by the running brand culture.
This is a serious case and has been quite cleverly demonstrated on social media. This did not bode well for PUMA and Mercedes. Speaking to keen sports observers and legal experts in sports injury cases, most believe this will be settled before going to court. Legal responses are due by August 24, 2026.
There are too many dangerous situations that can affect the shoe business. Brands are always trying new technologies to go faster, further and more efficiently. Injuries happen. However, carbon plate technology has been closely watched, and some doctors have expressed concern about the daily use of carbon shoes by young athletes, including elite athletes.
It is a sad situation. Abby Steiner wanted to become an elite athlete. PUMA wanted Abby Steiner to succeed because of course they would have wonderful benefits. However, new technology needs to be tested, and some athletes and foot structures do not respond well to various innovations. This seems to be the case with Abby Steiner.
This writer is not sure which brand of shoe he is considering Carbon fiber sheets or any new technology really wants a case like this to be tried by a jury. Chances of settlement of large liabilities in court, records are not just a smart precedent.
We will monitor the case, but we doubt that it will be settled before going to court. Stay tuned!
