Schofield Sr says Kid Austin beats Devin Haney Feud

The implication on their part is clear: if Haney was so comfortable, why pursue him behind the scenes?

Schofield Sr. leaned into the same criticism during a recent interview, dismissing the current top-level style as low-impact boxing.

“They’re going to hit and run in there. Nobody’s going to have a broken nose, broken lip,” Floyd Sr. said. Battle hype about Haney. “It’s going to come down to the judges. Nobody’s going to dominate.”

The pitch is simple: “Kid Austin” presses, forces turnovers and doesn’t wait for scorecards.

There is also real posturing behind Floyd Sr’s comments. Schofield Jr. is currently #1 by the WBA at lightweight, which puts him within a mandatory slot. The primary target was Gervonta Davis, but the Haney corner gives him a second lane after a big fight.

Haney’s side did not ignore it. He pushed back on social media, dismissing the talk as a power chase, while pointing to Schofield’s thin record at the top level outside of his quick finish of Tevin Farmer. The exchanges also drifted into personal territory, showing the sharper tone of Schofield Sr. explained in interviews.

That timing plays a role here. Haney is still linked to a possible rematch with Ryan Garcia later this year, leaving his next move uncertain. Schofield Sr. is using that opening to position his son as the alternative, a fighter he insists won’t fall into the same low-output pattern.

They think Haney’s style creates tight fights. They think their guy is breaking that pattern.
