It wasn’t all about London this week as we bring you our latest endurance running round from the UK.
QUAYSIDE 5km & Junior 3km, Newcastle, Tyne & Wear, 22 April
Carl Avery was a second faster than his fourth-place time here last year in 14:29 after marking Joe Firth himself for his first race win.
It was the same time that saw him finish sixth on the banks of the River Tyne in 2024, and where the Morpeth Harrier was third in 2023 and second in 20:18 in the race the now 39-year-old has been competing in since 2014.
Second-placed Firth has only been competing since 2022 and here the 26-year-old from Leeds beat his previous best by five seconds with a return of 14:30.
Women’s winner Megan Stenhouse found 16:54 easy enough to win the women’s race at a venue where the 22-year-old ran 16:20 in August’s race here.

THE SERPENTINE LAST FRIDAY OF THE MONTH, Hyde Park, London, April 24
European Masters W45 10km silver medalist Zoe Oldfield claimed a women’s narrow victory by four seconds over Alice Mullin, Steve Smith reports.
Claire Elms, who won the W60 10km title in Madeira last year, was not in the women’s top ten after a mile, but a 10:35 final 3km moved her into third and closed on the leading duo.
Elms, who holds every course record in the W40 to W60 age group, improved the latter to 18:16.
European Masters M50 M50 1500m indoor medalist Simon Coombes had the best result for the men, finishing sixth overall in 16:30.
