Molly Codery’s season is over
A season that started bright and promised a lot is over Molly Cooder.
Earlier this month, he won Diamond League of Rome “I am very satisfied with today. I had a short approach in 10 steps. I had a great season and sometimes you have to take a deep breath, it’s a journey. I think it was a smart move to stop at 4.80 because I’ve just come back from Rabat, there was a bit of risk and I wanted to take it easy on my body, not put pressure on it.”
The great indoor season he covered included retaining his world indoor title at 4.85. His 2026 slate lists six contests and five wins. His future plans included more diamond leagues, the Commonwealth Games and the European Championships.
Then, in mid-June, he announced that he was out for the season. emergency spine surgery, microdiscectomy – a procedure to remove part of a spinal disc after experiencing a “flare”.

He wrote on Instagram: “Emergency spine surgery (microdiscectomy) was not on my 2026 bingo card and just like that, my season was over. I absolutely regret even writing this, missing another year of major championships and home games.: For context, I had a back flare last week that quickly worsened and required immediate surgery to prevent further damage.

“The surgery was successful and my road to recovery begins today. I really thought 2026 was going to be my year after Paris and Tokyo and everything, but I wanted to add one more chapter to my autobiography before I come back.”
