Mayweather Team Holds Pacquiao Rematch As Netflix Deadline Approaches

Jas Mathur says the Mayweather rematch is still on despite growing doubts, but the stoppage is now squarely on Floyd’s side.

Jas Mathur, CEO of MP Promotions, said that the September fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao fell apart, said the fight remains a signed professional bout that has not been canceled. His comments, shared via The Ring, come as speculation mounted over whether the deal would collapse before being finalised.

“Manny has not made any official statement about the status of the fight against Floyd,” Mathur said. “Instead, this is a signed professional fight and has not been canceled. People should stop spreading rumors and/or fabricating stories.”

Mathur made it clear the delay was linked to legal back-and-forth, not a break in talks. “We are finalizing some details with Floyd’s team and are waiting for their counsel to respond. The Netflix deadline is approaching and Floyd’s management team knows what they need to do.”

That particular point is crucial. This shifts the spotlight off Pacquiao and forces Mayweather to either take the lead or be the reason for the delay.

The original fight in 2015 generated massive revenue, but left many fans cold due to its one-sided nature. A second meeting only carries weight if both sides fully commit to a real match, not a protracted negotiation that fades into nothingness.

Fans under 25 do not have a connection to Floyd Mayweather Jr. or Manny Pacquiao apart from highlights and stories. Their attention is on names like Gervonta Davis and Shakur Stevenson, fighters they actually followed in real time. That reality feeds the skepticism.

Too many “professional” events in recent years have seemed controlled, more like sparring than real fights. Mathur emphasizing that this is a sanctioned pro bout reads as an attempt to counter that perception. Until the opening bell rings, however, many people won’t fully buy in.
