Suthar attributed his success to sticking to a simple strategy rather than trying anything out of the ordinary. Explaining the thought process during the spell, he said: “During the spell, my focus seemed to be bowling in the right areas and playing to my strengths. The keeper was helping, so my effort was to bowl in the right areas and hit the right lengths as consistently as possible.”
The spinner later revealed that the conditions suited his bowling style perfectly. This disciplined approach paid immediate dividends as he troubled the Afghans throughout his spell and emerged as one of India’s outstanding performers.
“The wicketkeeper was offering a bit of help and my strength is in turning the ball. So my aim was to get as much spin as possible because the pitch helped. At the same time, I wanted to keep bowling in good places and hit the ideal length consistently because that’s where the help was coming from. That was my focus.” he explained.
From domestic cricket to the Indian dressing room
Reflecting on his journey, Suthar spoke emotionally about achieving his dream of representing India.
“My journey started in domestic cricket, under-19 and then the Ranji Trophy. It’s been very good and very special. It’s everyone’s dream to play for India and I’m very happy to get my cap.” He discovered Suthar.

“Yes, he can. Since we play together, he has a good understanding of my strengths and my bowling. Based on that, he guides me on pitch placement, match situations, lines and lengths to play on the back,” Suthar added.
