Jessica Schilder 21.09 DLR/WL, seven world leaders in Shanghai/Qeqiao


SHANGHAI/KEQIAO (CHN, May 16). Jessica Schilder’s new Diamond League record The highlight of the women’s shooting at 21.09 was the inaugural Shanghai/Keqiao Wanda Diamond League 2026 match. It was the performance of the day. Eight more records were set at the China Textile City Sports Center on Saturday afternoon, with seven world leaders and two more outdoor world leaders. Mondo Duplantis picked up his 44th win on the DLwhile four athletes earned their first DL win. In the end, there is no world record, although Duplantis tried, Kipyegon won, but Warholm lost. Loud, relatively packed stands witnessed the defeat of three of the seven reigning world champions who competed here in their respective categories. The next Diamond League match will be held in Xiamen on May 23.

Brief event-by-event reviews

Women200 m. Jackson 22.07 (0.3) over Miller-Uibo (22.26, her best since 2021), followed by Battle 22.40 and Richardson 22.42.400 m. Price (49.75) overtakes Butler (49.78) in the final meters, Nasser is only 7th (51.56).

1500 m. Haylom 3:55.56 MR/WL ahead of Duguma (3:55.71 PB, improved by 8s) and Caldwell (3:56.12 PB), a total of 11 runners under 4 minutes including Galvydyté (3:59.74 NR for Lithuania).

5000m (non-DL). Kipyegon in 14:24.14 WL ahead of Amebaw (14:24.21 PB) and Getachew (14:24.71 PB), twelfth Cherop (14:39.38 NR for Uganda), top 15 sub-15 minutes.

3000 m dome. Cemutay in 8:51.47 MR/WL with photo finish over Cherotic (8:51.48), fifth and sixth best times in DL. Buzayan (8:58.09 NR) and 20-year-old Ethiopian Kena Tufa (8:59.66 PB, improved by 32 seconds) followed.

100 m hurdles. Russell 12.25 MR/WL (0.4) in a loaded field (7th best ever in a DL meet) from Charlton (12.38 NR), who got the best first part of the race.

Long jump. Nichols’ 689 (-0.2) for his DL premiership also had a 683 and 681 good enough for 1st place. Iappuccino is only 5th (669).

Shooting. Schilder 21.09 DLR/MR/WL/NR, best since 2012, best in Europe since 2005, the contest was decided in heat five with Jackson (20.46) second and Mitton (20.42) third.

Men

100 m. An amazing debut DL win for Leotlela with a 9.97 (0.6) from line 1 ahead of Omanyala (9.98) and Bednarek (9.98) in a close finish. Other star names finished 6-7-8 (Simbin, Tebogo, Coleman).

800 m. English: 1:43.85 MR for his second DL win in 7 years, Haingura (1:43.89) second.

3000 m. Abdilaahi shook off the rest of the field to win his first DL title in 7:25.77 MR/WL/NR, third European title ever, ahead of R.Cheruiyot (7:26.11 PB) and Almgren (7:26.48 NR), a record 14 finishers including Mexico’s sub 7:30 minute (7:30 NR). Bahrain’s Balev (7:29.60 Asian record) and Uruguay’s Katroff (8:29.72 South American record).

110 m hurdles. Premiership DL win for Britt 13.07 (0.1) =PB over Tinch (13.10).

300 m hurdles. Dos Santos led from the start and posted a 33.01 MR/WL/PB (2nd best ever) ahead of Warholm (33.05).

Pole vault. Duplantis 612 MR and outdoor WL, tested at WR 632 height. 6 m was already the winner,

Long Jump (not DL). Furlani 843 (0.4) with an outdoor WL and PB over Saraboykov’s 807 (0.1), just 4 successful attempts for the top 2. Marschall second 580. Karalis flies high but on the bar.

Discus throw. Cech with 70.58 MR (improved from 1st year on DL, 2010) and no Ramona WL. Also in rows 70.31 and 70.25. Second Danny 3m back (67.54) in no wind conditions.
