Basketball was my first love.
Honestly, I’m thankful basketball didn’t work out because now my life revolves around golf. I wouldn’t have it any other way. However, don’t get it twisted. I was a baller. I know the ball like Picasso knew paint.
If NIKE or adidas decided to turn some of the popular shoes that dominate the game of basketball into golf shoes, I would be over the moon. If you follow golf on YouTube, we’re seeing the growth and impact of NBA players on the golf course. I don’t know about you, but I’m all for it.
For our anti-sneakerhead readers, you won’t like some of my suggestions. You have been warned.
Here are five signature basketball shoes that I wish were made into golf shoes.
NIKE Kobe 6 Protro Grinch

Don’t let the high price fool you; this is one of the most iconic basketball shoes of all time.
The current buy it now price in my size is $849. I’ll admit that’s a bit of an exaggeration, but you’ll see the Protro Grinches at most US basketball tournaments
If NIKE decides to add some golf spikes to a pair of Grinches, I’d be a happy customer.
NIKE Zoom LeBron II

It felt fitting to include a pair of Lebrons on this list due to the fact that King James has made it clear that he is now a golfer.
After taking a look at his entire shoe catalog, I decided that the NIKE Zoom LeBron II is the perfect pair for the golf course.
Think along the lines of the Air Jordan 9 G. Add some golf spikes to these babies and customize the shoe for the golf course and you’ll have a best selling golf shoe in no time.
Book 1 of NIKE

Honestly, the Book 1 is not my favorite basketball shoe. It doesn’t even make my top 10.
But if we’re looking for signature basketball shoes that would work well as golf shoes, the Book 1 should be on that list. The shape of the shoe is ready for the course, just needs a few studs and a slight adjustment to the outsole for extra support on the course.
adidas Kobe 2 ‘All-Star’

You have to be a die-hard Kobe fan or an all-star athlete like our Content Director (Connor Lindeman) to enjoy the idea of the adidas Kobe 2 becoming a golf shoe.
At first glance, you probably pictured an orange Creamsicle and wondered how in the world adidas ever allowed this to be released as a basketball shoe in the first place. Stop the hate. This shoe is the real thing. It has a basic, futuristic look that would pair well with a nice pair of golf pants on the course.
NIKE Cradle Rock Low (Steve Nash)

NIKE is missing out on the big bucks that the NIKE Cradle Rock Low could make on the golf course. At first glance, it’s just your typical Jordan 1. The Steve Nash inspiration is what makes this shoe so epic. Nash won back-to-back MVPs in 2004-05 and 2005-06 and will go down as one of the coolest point guards of all time.
If you take a look at my entire list, the Cradle Rock Low would be the easiest to convert into a golf shoe by far. Don’t lie, you will shake them.
Honorable Mention – LA Gear Airstream (Kareem Abdul-Jabbar)

The LA Gear Airstream designed for Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was created good before my time, but this style is making a comeback.
Give me these in a size 11.5 with some golf spikes and a comfortable removable insole and I’d be rocking them on the course seven days a week.
Final thoughts
Most of these shoes will never become golf shoes, but I do expect some of these athletes to collaborate on golf specific releases.
The most likely scenario is a golf shoe from Lebron James and the NIKE team, but I wouldn’t be surprised if we also get a Kobe Bryant golf shoe on the way. You might not be interested if you don’t like basketball, but that doesn’t mean you should avoid shoes all together. These coveted lines are prepared to get them right the first time to protect the integrity of the firm’s footwear.
I come from the camp that played basketball before golf, and I know I’m not alone in this. Someday, sometime, we will get the crucifixion we deserve.
Cross your fingers, say your prayers, and keep accumulating good karma so we can make dreams come true with a signature basketball shoe turned golf shoe.
