India dough Jemima Rodrigues urged his teammates to adopt an attack mentality ahead of their high stakes ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 to face against Australia on Sunday at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground. With a place in the semi-finals hanging in the balance, Rodrigues believes India must challenge the defending powerhouse on its own terms rather than letting it dictate the contest.
Harmanpreet KaurThe team enters the game with three wins in four matches. However, a win over the six-time champions is essential for India to qualify for the play-offs of the tournament.
Jemimah Rodrigues talks about India’s game plan against Australia
In the shortest format, this competition is traditionally dominated by Australia. Since the teams first met in 2008, India have managed just 10 wins in 38 women’s T20 Internationals. India’s last T20 Women’s World Cup win over Australia was in Sydney 2020. Poonam Yadav‘s memorable four-wicket spell inspired his famous 17-run triumph. Despite the historic record, Rodrigues believes the current Indian team has the confidence and experience needed to challenge Australia. Speaking at JioStar’s Champions Huddle, the stylishly inclined defender explained that the approach would only play to Australia’s strengths.
“The thing about Australia is they never let you settle. They’re always attacking, always pressing. If you want to do well against them, you can’t defend. You have to dominate and take the game to them and our team relishes that challenge. We know there’s no other way. You have to match their intensity and stay ahead. That kind of mindset works well for us.” Rodrigues said.
The middle-order batsman, who scored a stunning century against Australia in the semi-final of the ODI World Cup earlier in his career, stressed that confidence and execution will be the deciding factors on Sunday. He believes India have enough quality and experience within the squad to compete with the tournament favourites.

Experience and confidence key for India
Rodrigues highlighted the experience of several Indian players against Australia, hinting that familiarity with the opposition should help the team stay under pressure.
“Shafali Verma played a lot against them. Renuka played well against Australia in the past. Most of our players have good experience against them. We’ve faced them many times. But on the day it’s all about execution. We just have to go out there and pull ourselves back and play with that aggressive intent. If we do that, I think everything will fall into place.” Rodrigues added.
India’s confidence has been boosted by a five-wicket win over Bangladesh at Old Trafford in Manchester. The win lifted Harmanpreet’s side to second place in the standings with six points from four matches and an impressive net run rate of +2.268, keeping qualification in their grasp.
