‘If you want belts, don’t sign with Zuffa’

“If you’re going to get involved with Zuffa, you know what you’re getting yourself into,” Vargas told Fight Hub TV. “You want to play at that playground, you know the rules of that playground.”

Zuffa Boxing has become one of the sport’s biggest talking points in recent weeks. WBO president Gustavo Olivieri recently stated that Zuffa is currently ineligible to participate in purse offers, while questions remain about how fighters under the promotion will pursue traditional world titles if the company moves forward with its own system.

Emiliano believes the situation is simple for any boxer considering signing with the promotion.

“You can’t complain if you’ve already signed on the dotted line,” Emiliano said. “I think if you want to fight for belts, don’t sign with Zuffa.”

Despite his comments, Emiliano made it clear that he does not criticize the promotion itself and understands that Zuffa is trying to bring a different approach to the business.

“I think they do a lot of different things. They come in to shake up the game,” Vargas said. “So, I have nothing bad to say about Zuffa, but if you sign, then you know what you’re getting yourself into.”

Emiliano also expressed support for Turki Alalshikh, who recently revealed he is dealing with health issues as he continues to oversee major boxing events.

“My heart goes out to him,” Vargas said. “He was a game-changer for the game of boxing, and hopefully I’ll be praying for him. Hopefully they work something out, and hopefully they stay in boxing as well.”

The undefeated Vargas returns to action against Mills on Saturday as he continues his climb through the junior welterweight division.
