Eddie Hearn warns Zuffa fighters could lose world title qualification

“I think there’s going to be a big split in boxing right now,” Matchroom promoter Hearn told the media on Saturday night. “If you go with Zuffa, you’re out of the governing bodies. I think that’s really how it’s going to be.”

Hearn’s comments come as Zuffa Boxing continues to build momentum and attract attention from fighters and promoters across the sport. The long-term question has been whether his events will work alongside the WBC, WBA, IBF and WBO system or move in a separate direction.

Hearn made it clear where he stood.

“If you sign with Zuffa, you can’t win a world championship,” he said. “You can’t have it both ways.”

He pointed to recent movement involving titleholders and contenders and argued that fighters who leave the traditional route are giving up part of what boxing has historically valued most.

“The legacy will always be the answer,” Hearn said.

That line gets to the real fight under the headlines. Zuffa can offer money, platform power and huge promotion through TKO. Traditional boxing still offers belts, rankings and the history attached to becoming champion.

Many fighters will try to secure both if possible. Hear doubts that the balance can hold.

Hearn also criticized recent arguments against the Ali Act, saying income transparency remains one of the strongest protections for fighters in the current US system.

Whether fans agree with Hearn or not, he touched something real. Boxing may be moving down two separate paths, and fighters may soon have to decide which one matters more.
