Ducati are said to want their relationship with MotoGP legend Marc Marquez to continue beyond the Spaniard’s retirement.
Marquez He began riding for Ducati in 2024, albeit in Gresini colours, after ending his long and historic stint at Honda. He then moved up to the factory team in 2025 and became his third MotoGP champion behind Casey Stoner and Francesco Bagnaia.
While Marquez is unlikely to retain the title. After another injury that will keep him out of at least two Grands Prix this year (France and Catalonia), his unique status in the sport means his value extends beyond racing.
Was Marc Marquez right to keep his nervous problems a secret from Ducati?
Ducati eye ambassador position for Marc Marquez
Although there are hypotheses to the contrary. Mark Marquez has signed a ‘same’ two-year deal as Pedro Acosta, which will keep him on the Red Bike until at least the end of 2028.
But Marquez chose to sign a one-plus-one contract Ducati He pointed out that it will be difficult to plan in the future. Riders like Fermin Aldeguer, who will move from Gresini to VR46 next year, are seen as the future of the brand.
Marquez, however, insisted that the deal included ‘get-out clauses’ when there were concerns over his fitness. It is unclear what conditions are attached to these clauses, but Ducati has promised to abide by the decision.
Who will win the Catalan Grand Prix?
While Marquez hasn’t spoken to Ducati about the nerve problem that will require new shoulder surgery (apart from leg repairs after the Le Mans Sprint crash), their relationship is still ‘perfect’. Indeed, Ducati wants to keep him on as ‘brand ambassador’ after his retirement from racing, a role once held by Stoner.
Honda may have earmarked Marquez for the position if they can’t sign him in advance, but Ducati will be hoping they can capitalize on ‘commercial and media appeal’ instead.
There was ‘much rumour’ that Marquez’s long-time personal sponsor Red Bull could replace Monster Energy with Ducati next year.
However, MARCA says that Ducati’s deal with Monster runs until the end of 2027, preventing such an arrangement for the time being.
A report released last month said. Monster can be split with Yamaha. At the end of the season. That makes their partnership with Ducati even more important if they want to participate in MotoGP.
