Devin Haney says Gervonta Davis’ team reached out, dismisses rehydration clause talk

Devin Haney says a fight with Gervonta Davis could finally be moving closer to reality after years of requesting the matchup.

Haney revealed on social media that Tank Davis’ team recently reached out about a potential fight. When a fan responded by warning him not to agree to any rehydration restrictions, Haney quickly shut down the idea.

“Never,” Haney said X about not being willing to agree to a rehydration clause.

The response came shortly after Haney suggested that talks between the two sides had begun.

“I think Gervonta grew some balls.. his team reached out! We might just fight! 😅,” Haney posted.

A fight between Haney and Gervonta has been one of boxing’s longest unanswered questions. Haney repeatedly pursued the bout during his lightweight title run, but the fight never materialized despite years of public calls and fan demand.

The San Francisco-born Haney became the undisputed lightweight champion in 2022, while Davis continued to build his profile as one of boxing’s biggest pay-per-view attractions.

Haney’s rejection of rehydration clauses is likely to become a talking point as negotiations progress. Rehydration restrictions became a major topic of debate ahead of Tank’s 2023 fight with Ryan Garcia, with many fans criticizing the contractual terms.

Devin has recently been linked to potential fights against Ryan Garcia, Shakur Stevenson and Keyshawn Davis. His latest comments now put Gervonta Davis back in the conversation after years of failed attempts to make the game.
