Daniel Dubois believes promoter Frank Warren may have a preferred outcome when he challenges Fabio Wardley for the WBO heavyweight title in Manchester on Saturday night.

Both heavyweights are promoted by Queensberry, but Dubois joked this week that a win for him would provide more immediate options for Warren’s growing stable of heavyweight contenders.
Wardley has already indicated he has little interest in fighting stablemate Moses Itauma even if the undefeated contender becomes mandatory challenger, while Dubois already has history with Oleksandr Usyk after losing twice to the unified heavyweight champion.
Dubois suggested his victory could create a quicker route to major internal heavyweight fights for Queensberry.
“It’s definitely better for Frank if I win. It’s a better fight, isn’t it Frank?” Dubois said while sitting next to Warren during a media roundtable.
“It’s as much about skills as it is punching power. I think I’m going to show that I’ve got a punch and a bit of boxing ability about me.
“I’m the one with the amateur experience and an amateur pedigree, so I’m going to show that on the night.
“Fabio was lucky on his rise, but his luck runs out when he comes up against me. You’ve seen him come back from the dead in fights, but he can’t do it this time.”
Warren reportedly smiled after Dubois made the comment that he preferred a Dubois win. The Queensberry promoter later pointed to the strength of his heavyweight stable, which now includes Dubois, Wardley, Itauma and WBC mandatory challenger Agit Kabayel.
Saturday’s fight has big implications for both heavyweights. Wardley enters undefeated and defends his WBO title for the first time, while Dubois tries to rebuild after his second loss to Usyk.
The winner could move on to an undisputed title shot against Usyk or possibly to a future fight involving Itauma, who is quickly rising through the heavyweight division.
