Marquez was showing ‘special’ braking talent. Before arriving in MotoGP and in 2013 he showed plenty of that in his first season, beating Jorge Lorenzo and Pedrosa.

Dani Pedrosa has spoken of how his relationship with Marc Marquez at Honda was ‘very strong’.

Describing his relationship with his Honda teammate, he said: “Well, Mark and I have always had a good relationship on a personal level and as friends because I’ve known him since he was a kid.

I didn’t have much contact with him in 2007 when he joined the World Championship I think or 2008, but I got to know him well in 2009–2010.

“We were doing some events with Repsol and I was already in MotoGP, and obviously when he joined the team the atmosphere was very intense because first of all, in the Repsol team – at least at that time – the two riders are like two different teams, right?

“You don’t work as a team, you work to see who’s the best, and that’s it, and both riders are equipped to be the best they can be, but we’re not asked to work as a team.

Dani Pedrosa caps another wildcard by successfully completing his season in MotoGP – what’s your favorite moment of his career?

“Now that’s been done a lot by Aprilia, it’s been done a lot by Ducati, and it’s been done a lot by KTM, but the feeling at the time was, ‘We have the best equipment, you go as fast as you can, and you go as fast as you can, and whoever’s faster then becomes the number one rider.’

“So, with that dynamic, you as a rider, when you join, when he joins as a rookie, or when I join as a rookie, or later, your goal is to set the course and always beat your opponent, right?”

Pedrosa described Marquez as a captain.Dominating MotoGP from 2013 to 2019 with Cervera Anant. Meanwhile, he struggled to keep up, with various breakdowns and injuries eventually derailing his career.

While the pair are now on good terms, Pedrosa looks set to become KTM’s test rider, while Marquez hopes to win his eighth MotoGP title and 10th Grand Prix championship with Ducati in 2026.
