Conor Benn vs Ryan Garcia planned months ago, says Hearn

Hearn also indicated that commitments may have already been made on Benn’s side, which could affect how the final deal is structured.

“Oscar doesn’t always play ball, and he has good leverage because they’ve already promised Conor Benn the fight is over, so they’ll have to pay up,” says Benn.

That situation gives Oscar De La Hoya leverage in negotiations, with Golden Boy Promotions involved on Garcia’s side, while Benn is linked to Dana White through Zuffa Boxing.

The potential structure of the fight adds another layer, with Garcia holding the WBC welterweight title and Benn positioned as a top contender. Discussions included a catchweight of around 150 pounds, which would move the fight away from a standard title defense.

Benn last fought Regis Prograis in a decision win, while Garcia enters the bout off the back of a win over Mario Barrios, starting a UK vs. USA match if the stipulations are settled.

No date or venue has been confirmed, but Hearn’s comments indicate that the fight is expected to take place once final terms are completed.

Additional details surrounding the fight structure are still being worked out, including weight, sanctioning considerations and final promotional terms between the parties involved. The expectation remains that once those elements are resolved, an official announcement will follow, with Benn in line with Garcia as the intended opponent.
