Davidovich Fokina wins the first title of his career in the championship of Mallorca
Fokina defeats Quinn 7-6, 6-3 for the first ATP Tournament title
Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, after losing five finals, secured the first ATP Tournament title. He conquered the former world #3 Grigor Dimitrov in Troy and the former world #36 Fabian Marozsan in three to reach his first final on the field.
It seems fitting that the twenty-seven-year-old would win the first ATP title on home soil and becomes the first Spaniard to lift the trophy in ATP 250 event in Majorca.

The Georgia Bulldogs are currently ranked #63reaching a career high of #48 in April. In the semifinals, the twenty-two-year-old destroyed the former world #30 Nuno Borges from Portugal, 6-1, 6-2.
Fokina, #2 seed, currently ranked #25having reached a high rank in his career 14 last fall. This was their first meeting at tournament level with a trophy on the line.
Fokina won the shot and chose to take. Quinn did 3/4 first serves, including an ace out wide, to hold at love as Fokina hit two winners and held 15 to level. The American hit two more aces and held at love 2-1 while the Spaniard faced three deuces and two break points before holding the draw.

Quinn competed in front of a partisan crowd with a level of composure beyond his years. Although he committed his first double fault, he was held 30 with a spectacular inside-out front. Fokina returned the favor with his first double fault and a forehand 30 ABOUT 3-3.
While there were few extended rallies, Quinn consistently hit the ball with greater depth and pace. The American held 30 with two more winners, including his fourth ace. Fokina, serving with new balls, opened with a double fault still holding 30 ABOUT 4-4.
Quinn’s first serve abandoned him as he missed 7/8including three additional double faults, last to serve. Fokina served for the set but got the break back after a forehand and two forehands from Quinn.
The American faced a deuce but two winners, including an ace to the tee, held for him 6-5 while Fokina held 15 to compel the offender. With the raucous crowd chanting “Foki” as they sweltered in the sweltering heat, they switched ends with the Spaniard leading the way. 4-2. The American would win two more points before conceding the set after a good shot from the Spaniard.
Fokina served first in the second and held to love, while Quinn served his fifth double fault, faced break points and deuces but held level. Fokina tore his signature on the line and held 30 ABOUT 2-1 while the American, serving with new balls, gifted his sixth double fault with a leg fault but held on for 2-2 with his sixth ace.
Fokina opened the fifth with an incredible inside-out forehand and held it easily 15 ABOUT 3-2 while Quinn served up two back-to-back backfaults and dropped a serve with his seventh double fault. As he repeatedly went for his second serve, double faults proved costly.
Fokina, inching closer to the finish line, hit three winners, including two consecutive aces for 5-2 while Quinn, serving to stay in the match, countered 15-30 and held for him 30 with two outstanding forehand winners.
The Spaniard served for the match and his first Tour-level title. Quinn took the opening point with a brilliant line return, but Fokina sealed the win with three more aces, the last on match point!
With so much on the line for both, it was a high-quality championship bout that showcased power, variety and poise under pressure. Phokina’s service was decisive; he won 76First % and 52% of second serve points while hitting six aces to just two double faults. He was just as effective when he returned, winning 23First % and 56% of second serve return points. He was stellar when facing break points, making saves 3/4 during conversion 2/5.
Both now head to Wimbledon for their third Grand Slam of the season. With just one day off, they will compete on the historic lawns of the All England Club. Fokina’s best performance in JP19 to date there have been two appearances in the third round (2023 & 2025) while Quinn reached the second round in his tour debut last year.
The American takes over 14seeds and the world #16Luciano Darderi, for the first time. At the Majorca Championship, the Italian lost to Nuno Borges in the quarters in two tight sets.
Fokina is planted 22second at Wimbledon and has drawn Argentine southpaw Juan Manual Cerundolo. It is clear that a threat in his dirt 2021 title in Córdoba and his five-set loss in the second round of the world #1 Jannik Sinner at Roland Garros last month, he has demonstrated his pedigree on grass this week with a quarter-final appearance at Eastbourne (l. Samuel).
Currently ranked at a career high of #45 after his victory in ATP 175 event in Bordeaux, the world’s youngest brother #21 Francisco Cerundolo will be a significant challenge on the opening day.
