Why this mini-driver can improve your game off the tee

“Sometimes smaller is better.”

This is the lesson Drew Stoltz learned in the last episode of Emergency 9presented by Cobra, when he received Mini driver Cobra KING TEC out for a spin.

What benefits can a mini driver offer you? The smaller head can help eliminate your big miss, leading to more distance from the tip – and as a result, better access to opportunities and potential bird looks.

“Take, for example, you’re a guy fighting with his driver,” Stoltz said. “I’ve seen people switch to this mini driver and instantly become infinitely better at driving the golf ball than they were before.

“It’s easier to hit. It’s easier to get airborne,” he continued. “If you’re a guy who wrestles a lot, I see this thing driving him all the time. You can still get him off the ground.”

While you may sacrifice some distance from the mini top, Stoltz says it can be worth it.

“You’re going to be in the game more often than you would if you steal the driver every time and splash it,” he said.

Another benefit of the mini? It can replace a hard 3-wood, which can be a difficult club to master for some players.

“If you’re a guy who doesn’t like his 3-wood a lot, scared to use it off the tee, maybe hates it off the tee, any of the above, this is a quick fix for that,” Stoltz said. “Obviously you don’t get as much distance as you would with your regular driver, but it’s a lot easier if you get 303ccs in this head (compared to 460ccs in modern driver heads), which makes it a lot more forgiving, optimizes your speed, your distribution. It’s a lot easier to hit and get off the wood.

Stoltz said he likes Cobra’s KING TEC mini especially because it’s built with Cobra’s PWRSHELL HOT Face technology, which increases forgiveness, directs ball flight and tightens distribution on off-center shots.

“You have two adjustable weights, one near the face, one toward the back. You have the FutureFit33 technology. You can move it up in the loft, down in the loft, go straighter, go flatter,” Stoltz said. “Whatever type of swing you have, there’s a fit that’s good for you.

“It’s the most versatile mini driver on the market.”
