Osleys Iglesias, Carlos Adames in advanced talks for IBF title fight

Carlos Adames’ move to the super middleweight division could be close to becoming official.

According to Ring Magazine’s Mike Coppinger, IBF super middleweight champion Osleys Iglesias is in advanced talks to defend his title against Adames, the current WBC middleweight champion who has publicly discussed a move to 168 pounds in recent weeks.

The bout would represent the first title defense for Iglesias, one of the division’s most feared punchers. The Cuban knockout artist recently captured the vacant IBF super middleweight title and has quickly emerged as a dangerous option for anyone holding a 168-pound belt.

For Adames, the fight would mean an immediate jump to the deep end of the super middleweight division. The Dominican champion has repeatedly stated on social media over the past few weeks that he is moving up from middleweight and is looking for the toughest opponents available rather than staying at 160 pounds.

The potential fight also raises fresh questions about the middleweight division. Adames still holds the WBC title at 160 pounds, but his recent comments have consistently pointed to a permanent move to super middleweight.

If a deal is finalized, Adames will have the opportunity to become a two-division world champion, while Iglesias will get the type of high-profile opponent his team has been looking for since winning the IBF belt.

No date or venue has been announced, but it looks like negotiations are progressing towards one of the most intriguing title fights available in the super middleweight division.
