The softest ball you can buy for $25 I just got a stars and stripes makeover

When the US Open, 4th of July and the first half of the nation, everyone joins, everyone wants to join the party.

Wilson is bringing back some of his red, white and blue joy with a new one Limited Edition Stars and Stripes model of its popular DUO Soft golf ball.

It is the same DUO Soft as the standard models. It’s all dressed up for Independence Day with a TRK 260 stretch helper in great looking red, white and blue. The DUO Soft logo is reserved by the blue stars. Wilson’s shield and player number are also blue while the classic Wilson script logo is red.

The ball, of course, is white.

The packaging is also emblazoned with the All-American flag.

A gentle legacy

of Wilson DUO Soft low compression golf balls revived when it was introduced in 2011. The first model had a ridiculously low compression of 27 (I’ve slept on firmer pads than that) but this current version, introduced in 2025, has a listed compression of 37.

The DUO Soft is a two-piece ball covered with ionomer, and at that compression, it won’t roll much. This won’t help you much if you’re trying to keep a green, but it’s not without merit. If you’re a right-handed golfer who usually cuts the ball on the next fairway to the right, a low-spin ball like the DUO Soft can end up in the fairway.

If you’re a regular left-handed cutter, just reverse the math.

A low spin ball is also not without merit when landing. The DUO Soft won’t have the same initial ball speed as a harder ball, but it will at least try to make up for it by bending a little less and spinning a little more. More spin equals more distance, even if it’s just a little bit.

And what matters is where the ball ends up, not how it got there. There isn’t a golf course on the planet that makes you pick up the ball from where it stops and go back and play it from where it landed.

If you are a single digit baller, Wilson DUO Soft it won’t give you the spin you want to hold the greens. That’s okay, though. This ball was not made for you.

However, if you struggle with overspinning your driver and want to keep the ball in your fairway instead of someone else’s, or if you just like how soft golf balls feel when you hit them, then the Charmin-like Wilson DUO Soft might be right up your red, white and blue alley.

The only thing missing is the red glow of the rockets.

The special edition Wilson DUO Soft Stars and Stripes golf balls retail for $24.99. They are available now at retail and on Wilson Golf website.
