The world record figure is 18% annual increase in applications.
An amazing and world record breaking 1,338,544 people from the UK and around the world have applied to take part in the 2027 TCS London Marathon.
This huge total broke the previous world record of 1,133,813, which was set last year in the 2026 London Marathon vote. This represents an 18% year-on-year increase and more than double the total number of entries for the 2024 London Marathon (578,304).
The total number of UK applications for 2027 was 1,008,091, meaning 1.8% of the entire UK population applied to take part in the event. The largest number of UK applicants are women aged 20-29 with over 179,000 applicants and over 35% of UK applicants are aged 18-29.
A total of 503,284 applications were from men (49.92% of the total), 498,985 from women (49.50% of the total) and 5,822 (0.58% of the total) from non-binary applicants.

There were a further 330,450 applications from non-UK residents from more than 200 countries, including more than 92,000 from the US, more than 34,000 from France, more than 21,000 from Ireland and more than 14,000 from Germany.
Hugh Brasher, CEO of London Marathon Events, organizers of the TCS London Marathon, said: “This staggering total of over 1.33 million ballot entries firmly establishes London as the world’s most sought-after marathon. Nothing else is close.
“The 2026 TCS London Marathon was a landmark edition. The world’s most famous marathon became the biggest and fastest as 59,830 finishers crossed the iconic line on The Mall and set world records in the elite men’s and women’s races. We also witnessed history. Assefa once again rewrote the record books with a new women’s only record.
“We also saw an unprecedented turnout of young people over the weekend. A record 19,600 children took part in the TCS Mini London Marathon and over 610,000 completed the mini marathon at their schools across the UK.

“Our mission is to inspire people of all ages to get active and these extraordinary numbers demonstrate the huge appeal and power of the TCS London Marathon.”
Just before this year’s release, Brasher confirmed AW: that they are are still in talks with interested parties to organize a one-off two-day London Marathon next year.
Exciting plans include holding two marathons on Saturday and Sunday next year, which could bring huge benefits when it comes to charitable fundraising, economic stimulation, plus the significant social uplift the event has been synonymous with since 1981.
Brasher claimed that “double… one will be and done” and that it could bring economic and social benefits of £400m.
Voting results will be published in early July, seats will be allocated completely randomly.
