A strong team will compete on the streets of the West Midlands city of Birmingham in August.
Rose Harvey, Clara Evans-Graham, Louise Small, Weinai Gebresilasje and Tevelde Menges will join previously selected Abby Donnelly, Natasha Wilson, Mohamed Mohamed, Phil Seseman and Jonny Mallory in the British Marathon Team for the European Championships this summer.
The marathon takes place on August 16 in Birmingham and Harvey is being rewarded for his 2:26:14 performance in London last weekend, while his best since 2023 is 2:23:21.
Little, who became the third British woman to take home last Sunday, will wear the British jersey for the first time since 2018. His best time is 2:27:51.
Evans-Graham, whose PB is 2:25:04, returns to the British team after racing for Britain at the Paris Olympics in 2024, while Natasha Wilson (née Cockram) holds the Welsh record of 2:24:21.
Their selection is subject to the final European Athletics Road to Birmingham rankings, which will be finalized on July 30.
In the men’s team, Weinai Gebresilassie continues his colorful athletic journey. Born in Eritrea, he was a runner and flag bearer at the 2012 London Olympics but sought asylum and lived in Sunderland and Birmingham before settling with Shottleston Harriers in Scotland. He was the third Brit home in London in 2:06:59.
Medway & Maidstone’s Tewelde Menges also joins the team, adding to the selections from earlier this year, which of course includes Mohamed Mohamed, who became the fastest Briton in London Marathon history in 2:06:14.
