H50 Shooting Range: Do We Really Need It? another one Handheld GPS?
We are a collection of cynics, my friends. It is something to guard against.
Ho hum, another one in handyou can say with a wave of the hand. Or maybe you’re ready with, So it’s a handheld GPS, like the one on my phone? However, it only works if you add more than a hint of sarcasm.
Before we see who can win the race to the depths of cynicism, my friends, let’s try to understand the purpose of the Shot Scope. It’s actually quite simple: to give as many golfers as they want some kind of a device how far an option to buy a type of device how far it says Shooting range on it. That’s the smart thing to do when you’re in how far business.
The trick, of course, is to create a device that goes as far as having a combination of good features, a solid value proposition and a great price. If you can do all three, then you really have something.
From the looks of it, H50 shooting range hits on all three.
Basically, it does what any good GPS unit does. This gives you a nice visual map of the hole you are playing with all the necessary distances. Shooting range Patent-pending golf mapping technology, when paired with the unit’s built-in dual-band GPS antenna, delivers H50 what Shot Scope is calling a “unique level of golf map accuracy.”
Additionally, it provides dynamic “play-like” courtyards that account for changes in slope and elevation. This is relatively new to the world of handheld GPS as we are seeing more units and apps equipped with this feature. It won’t make slope laser ranges obsolete, but it does address a major shortcoming in GPS.
The “play-as” feature can be disabled for use during competition rounds.
More features and functions
of H50 shooting range comes loaded with 42,000 nine- and 18-hole courses worldwide (that’s more than 600,000 mapped holes). Furthermore, Shooting range has an in-house team that updates more than 8,000 courses every year.
As for the user interface, the H50 features a 4.3-inch AMOLED touchscreen. AMOLED stands for Active Matrix Organic Light-Emitting Diode and is commonly used in higher-end GPS golf watches. Handheld units tend to feature LCD touchscreens that aren’t as high-contrast or sharp.
Most importantly, that beautiful AMOLED touchscreen gives you some pretty detailed information. Along with the hole map and true “game-like” slope-type distances, you also get green view, pin placement, digital elevation maps, and green contour maps to see the undulation of the green.
“Bringing detailed views of the green map and contours to a large responsive touchscreen, the H50 helps players plan every shot from tee to green with confidence,” says Shot Scope CEO David Hunter.

of H50 shooting range contains a very strong magnet for wheelchair use. You can mount it in portrait or landscape mode if you’re using a cart. Since it’s the size of an iPhone, it can also be mounted in a phone cradle on a pushchair or electric wheelchair
Most important, however, is the H50’s overall connectivity. The unit has shot tracking capabilities, which puts it right Shooting range wheels. The only difference is that you will have to enter the club and the location of the shot by hand. If you want shot-tracking to be done automatically, you’ll need to look at Shot Scope’s X5 or V5 GPS/Shot-tracking watches.
of H50 includes a built-in scorecard function and the unit connects directly to the Shot Scope app. This takes your information into the Shot Scope ecosystem and syncs rounds played, scores and performance data.

As we mentioned, smart companies know what business they are really in and Shot Scope is a smart company. He knows he’s not in the GPS watch business, the photo tracking business, or the laser rangefinder business.
It is in the business how far.
If you want to know how far you got each of your clubs, Shooting range there is a solution for this. If you want to know how far you are from a pond, fairway bunker or pin, the company has solutions for that too.

As we anxiously await next week’s launch of the LM1 launch monitor, we can say that the 2026 additions to Shot Scope’s “how far” lineup represent milestones for the company. GPS watches have made wrist units a little later, but we’re seeing a bit of a renaissance. We can’t tell if it’s because so many of them are being built into the speaker or if it’s just because they’re bigger and easier to read than clocks. And, of course, there are more GPS phone apps out there than you can shake a stick at, and many of them are pretty good.
Again, it’s all about options. Handheld GPS devices can provide flexibility, especially if you don’t want your phone tethered during your four-hour excursion.
And options are what you offer when you’re in business as far.
