If there was ever a year to debut a special edition ice cream flavor in WC Phoenix Openthis is it.
With bright blue skies and temperatures reaching the high seventies every day, Scottsdale’s winter is providing ideal ice cream weather, and for the first time ever, fans in the country TPC Scottsdale will have the chance to cool down with a hot new flavor created just for the tournament.
At the WM Phoenix Open Media Appreciation Day in January, I had the opportunity to sample the flavor, which is called “WMPO Green Dream.” Media Day was cold and blustery – at least by Arizona standards (I had to wear a vest!). But I ate two spoonfuls anyway, between nine. It was so good!

The signature concoction features mint ice cream covered in chocolate chips and pretzels. This week, the spoons are also filled with green and yellow candies. In keeping with WM’s zero waste strategy, the ice cream is served in a compostable cup, donut or waffle cup with matching containers. I had mine in a waffle, which added a nice extra crunch to the mixes.
“WMPO Green Dream” ice cream will be sold locally until the end of the tournament on Sunday and can be found in the TPC Scottsdale fan area. The maker of the favorite, Arizona-based Novel IceCream, plans to donate 20 percent of all ice cream sales to the WM Phoenix Open Working For Tomorrow fund, an initiative created by WM and the Thunderbirds (host of the WMPO tournament), to support sustainability-related projects in Arizona. Among them: Waste Not, a Scottsdale organization that rescues unused food and delivers it to the local community.
While adult libations often take center stage at the WM Phoenix Open, Green Dream is a treat the whole family can enjoy. To learn more about the signature scent, watch the video above.
