There has been no official announcement, but the claim fits with how Queensberry has dealt with its heavyweights. All three fighters are under the same promotional banner, which removes the delays that often accompany outside negotiations and makes a quick deal easier to complete.
For Dubois, the timing is sharp. The 28-year-old lost his IBF title last July when he was stopped in the fifth round by Oleksandr Usyk, his second loss to the unified champion. Earlier in his career, Dubois was also stopped by Joe Joyce, setbacks that followed him whenever he faced fighters who could hit back hard. A lengthy rebuild would delay his return and offer no clear reward.
Taking on Wardley would put Dubois right back into title contention. The risk is obvious, but the upside is clear. A win instantly moves him back to the top tier. Waiting around does not.
Inside the Queensberry circle
Wardley’s position is safer, but not fixed. He stopped Joseph Parker in the 11th round last October and then became full WBO champion when Usyk chose a different path. That left Wardley with a belt but limited options for a first defense that would really carry weight with fans.
Dubois solves that problem. He brings name value, pressure and urgency, even with questions. This is the kind of fight that forces clarity instead of delay.
No room for error
If the game goes through, it won’t be a soft defense or a rebuilding move. This is not a safe move for either man. A win puts the winner right back in the mix for the biggest nights in sports, but a loss here creates a very long and difficult road back to the top.
