Brett Lee’s T20 World Cup 2026 Prediction: MVP and Best wicket-taker
Australian fast bowling legend Brett Lee officially appointed Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav as his choice for Most Valuable Player (MVP) 2026 edition. Speaking on the Mr Cricket BAE podcast, Lee highlighted Suryakumar’s explosive comeback during the recent T20I series against New Zealand when he scored 242 runs at a strike rate of 196.75.
Lee pointed out that while the batting 2025 is quieter, its ability to dominate subcontinental conditions makes it a major threat to any bowling attack. Furthermore, Lee predicted that mystery spinner Varun Chakraborty will finish the tournament as the leading goalkeeper. He pointed out that the pitches in India and Sri Lanka perfectly suited Chakravarthy’s style, noting that the tournament was “destined for him” to entice international players and emerge as a standout player in the World Cup.
“His form suits it, the wickets will suit him, the way he can confuse shots, I think this is destined for him, this will be his World Cup.” Lee said in an appearance on the Mr Cricket BAE podcast.

Lee’s champion prediction for T20 World Cup 2026
In terms of the eventual winner of the tournament, Lee was determined India, Australia, England and New Zealand as did its four semi-finalists, marking the Black Hats as the perennial “dark horse” of the competition. While acknowledging that India entered the tournament as a powerhouse on home soil, Lee backed Mitchell Marsh’s Australia to eventually lift the trophy.
Lee hinted that the title battle could come down to a showdown between India and Australia, but admitted his “heart” lies with the Aussies to win another global title. It was placed in Group B along with Australia and Sri Lanka IrelandLee believes their balance of strong and experienced sailors will be enough to navigate the high-pressure knockout rounds and potentially silence the home crowd in the final.
“It’s going to be one of these two, India or Australia. Don’t hate me, Australia will win, that’s my heart” Lee concluded.
