Time is a luxury. With busy lives, finding enough time to practice your golf game can be difficult – especially when so many skills are required to build a complete game.
The good news? Small amounts of focused practice can make a big difference. Here are five efficient practice ideas that you can actually fit into a busy schedule.
1. Work on the setup using a mirror
You can do significant improvements to your setup off course, and I can honestly say that most of my lessons start with setup adjustments. Often, when the setup improves, swings naturally follow.
Use a practice glove shaped to improve hand position and work on standing and stretching in front of a mirror. This is one of the fastest ways to see improvement without ever hitting a ball.
2. Learn a lot of wedge shots
Short game practice often leads to faster score improvement than any other area. If time is limited, choose only one distance per session – 20, 30, 40 or 50 yards.
From that distance, practice a higher, softer shot and a lower, running shot. The ability to hit multiple fairways from the same yard gives you options on the course and prevents the habit of relying on just one shot.
3. Focus on a single goal
Your “distance wedges” are the key to making birdies on the fifth and saving pars when you’re missing greens.
Spend 10-15 minutes hitting a specific target with a partial wedge. This helps you choose swing size and tempo—skills that translate directly to the course when you hit that exact swing. A defined goal also keeps your focus on the goal and purpose, not just the mechanics.
4. Develop a rubber band
Which club do you hit most often on your course? It could be your driver, but it could also be a wood, hybrid or long iron.
Spending extra time with this school club builds confidence through repetition and prepares you for the shots you face more often during a round.
5. Drill the target and scope
Good ball control simplifies everything that follows. Better drives lead to shorter approach shots, closer proximity to the hole and more likely putts.
When you practice your driver, use a configuration station. Extension bars can help you control your aim, ball position and shoulder tilt at address. Focus on quality over quantity by challenging yourself to hit a certain number of solid drives in a row.
Tour Aim 2.0 With 3 extension sticks + head cover with extension stick
What’s in the box? 📧 Tour Aim 2.0 will help you with more than just aiming your target correctly. It can be used to: Adjust the golf swing over the top so you stop hitting slices and pulling hooks. Fixing chips and blades and steps around the greens (which means you’ll get more up and down and lower your scores immediately). Eliminating your 3-Putts and making more shots inside 10 feet so you can make more pars and make fewer bogeys.
