MotoGP: Dovizioso tests Crutchlow’s place at Misano – Roadracing World Magazine

Andrea Dovizioso is set to ride in a private Misano test as a Yamaha Factory Racing MotoGP test rider.

Yamaha Motor Co’s Andrea Dovizioso will step up as a substitute at the upcoming Misano test.

Gerno di Lesmo (Italy), August 19, 2024

Yamaha Motor Co has agreed a private trial at Misano to replace Italian MotoGP legend Andrea Dovizioso Crutchlow as Yamaha’s factory racing MotoGP test rider.

Crutchlow had surgery on his hand earlier this year but had complications. While Crutchlow focuses on a full recovery, Dovizioso will temporarily fulfill the role of Yamaha Factory Racing’s MotoGP test rider.

Dovizioso and Yamaha completed a preliminary test at Mugello a few weeks ago to prove that the bond between Dovizioso and the YZR-M1 is still as strong as ever. The rider from Forli will be on the Yamaha again during the private test at Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli on Tuesday 20th and Wednesday 21st August.

First of all, let me start by saying that we all wish Kal a speedy recovery and hope that he will be back on track with our testing team soon.

“But in the meantime, we cannot be idle. We are therefore delighted to confirm that Andrea has agreed to fill in for Cal and take on the role of Yamaha Factory Racing MotoGP test rider at the private Misano test.

“Andrea and Yamaha have had a close relationship for many years. Dovi is a highly skilled and accurate rider and has a clear understanding of the technical side of MotoGP. In addition to his experience in the MotoGP Championship, he also knows Yamaha’s MotoGP project, so we look forward to continuing our partnership with him. We think it will help us gather valuable information and provide good feedback.

“I’m sorry Cal is still unwell, and I hope he makes a speedy recovery.

“Having said that, I’m happy and excited to get the chance to get on a MotoGP bike again, and I want to thank Yamaha for this opportunity. I hope I can contribute to the development of the bike.”
