The Super Middleweight Champions Canelo Alvarez and William Scull will hold a press conference tomorrow, March 6 at the Radio City Music Hall in New York, to promote their undisputed 168-Pond Championships on May 3 in Riyadh.
Road to Crawford
Scull is the setup of Canelo to prepare for his fight against Terence Crawford on September 13. Alvarez also needs Scull to capture his belt to hold the undisputed championship when facing Crawford (41-0, 31 COs).
Thursday’s press conference starts at 6 p.m. It is unclear how they will market the Canelo scull battle with fans in the US Scull, do not speak English and are not well known, and the supporters who know about him feel that he is only a champion in the name. He is a belt holder and that is his only value.
On the bottom map, heavyweight contenders will fight Martin Bakole and Efe Ajagba. Depending on who else is on the map, that fight can easily steal the show. Canelo has to raise his game from his last two fights against Jaime Munguia and Edgar Barlanga. In both competitions, Canelo threw out after four rounds and took many necessary punishment against contenders that David Benavidez or David Morrell would have wiped out.

I hate to say it, but there is literally no question for this battle. Turki Alalshikh had to put Canelo’s feet on fire and forced him to fight someone well who wanted to see the fans instead of this man.
Canelo is now so rich, with his estimated $ 250 million fortune, that he no longer has the hunger to take the risky fights that fans want to see. He is like a soldier worn by the fight that left the front lines and wants no part of the fight. Alvarez shows signs of fighting fatigue, and basically chooses to stay behind, clean and cook guns. That’s what is fighting for.
Some people think it’s just a part of Alvarez’s retirement tour to ensure he keeps winning until he hung his gloves. Although the Cuban Scull is unbeaten and technically the IBF champion, he looked worse than horrible, and his title on October 19 last year in Stadthalle, Falkensee, Germany, with an ominous unanimous decision on Vladimir Shishkin.
Many fans, including this writer, felt that Shishkin deserved the fight. I saw Shishkin win 10-2. Scull is slow, weak and has a low work rate. What he looked like in that battle, he would have lost to Canelo’s last two opponents, Edgar Berlanga and Jaime Munguia.
If you have all four belts on the line, this is one of the outlets for the Canelo-Crawford match. This enables Crawford to become an undisputed champion of three divisions. Fans of comfortable boxing will not care if there is one belt or four at stake for the Canelo-Crawford match, and the hardcore fans do not consider it significant. It would be better if no belts were about to the Canelo against Crawford match. Make it an exhibition,
