Chelsea’s summer signing Omari Kellyman has confirmed he has suffered a serious hamstring injury.
The 18-year-old midfielder joined from Aston Villa in a £19m deal at the start of the summer. transfer window and has been a regular for the Blues’ under-21 side, impressing in the 4-2 defeat by RB Leipzig in which he scored twice and was sent off in the 47th minute.
Fans hoping to see Kellyman in the senior team will have to be patient as the player took to social media to confirm he had suffered “another long term hamstring injury”.
Reports suggest Kellyman could miss up to two months while he recovers from his latest setback.
In November 2023, Kellyman suffered a similar hamstring injury which ended up keeping him out until the end of January 2024, after which he returned to scoring three goals in six appearances for the Under-21s. Aston Villa.
There had been speculation last week that Kellyman could leave Chelsea on a season-long loan, with Birmingham City considered a possible landing spot, but nothing ever came of the rumours.
Chelsea may look to offload Kellyman once the January transfer window arrives, but may find clubs reluctant to take a chance on the teenager until he proves his fitness.
