The Titleist GT line is now complete with the release of GT hybrids to complement last summer. GT driver AND starting the forests of the fairway.
Here are three things to know about the new line of Titleist GT hybrids, which are available now for pre-order at Fairway Jockey.
1. More customizable than ever
With the new line of GT hybrids, Titleist is now the only OEM to offer both loft sleeve and center of gravity (CG) adjustment on every hybrid in their line.
“The next question we asked ourselves in the design process was, ‘How do we really optimize performance for the player?'” said Tom Bennett, Titleist Senior Product Manager for Metalwood R&D. “We wanted golfers to unlock the best possible performance from these models through the fitting process. With adjustable fore-aft weights on the GT1 and adjustable heel weights on the GT2 and GT3, we’ve added a significant amount of customization to each model that will go a long way in terms of launch and ball flight. “
All three models will come with a weight of 5 grams and 11 grams. With the ultra-light GT1, designed for players who need a high launch, the 11 gram weight will be standard in the back position to make the CG as deep as possible to help with launch. Players who want a lower spin or lower launch setup, but still benefit from the GT1’s ultra-lightweight or high-forgiveness design, can move the heavyweight forward.
The GT2 and GT3 hybrids will come standard with 11 grams of heel weight, but flipping the weights to place the heavy weight in the toe gives the club a slight bias setup and extends the CG just slightly to the toe side . face, where many players tend to hit the ball.
Weights can also be customized with a weight kit with weight options that go in 2 gram increments, ranging from 3 to 13 grams. The head weight can also be adjusted between 6 grams lighter and 6 grams heavier, depending on the combination chosen.
2. New high models of the MIA
Forgiveness was a priority in Bennett’s design process.
“When we decided to improve our hybrid line, one of the first things we looked at in terms of our design goals was stability,” he said. “Hybrid forgiveness is especially important because for most players, these are clubs that score. Eliminating excess distance is a huge benefit – not just off the tee, but perhaps even more so on the approach to the green.”
Putting more weight in the rear of the GT1 hybrid also increases the MOI. The club has 5 percent more MOI than the previous generation TSR1 while having similar MOI properties to the TSR1 with the forward heavyweight.
The GT2 Hybrid has the highest MOI in the family, a 10 percent increase from the previous model. The GT3 Hybrid, despite being 6 percent smaller than its predecessor, has 15 percent more MOI thanks to improved perimeter weighting.
3. Three models
All three GT hybrid models serve a specific gamer archetype.
of Hybrid GT1like its companions in the recently announced GT1 line-up, it’s an ultra-lightweight option that promotes high launch and mid-spin, but can also be ordered in a standard weight specification for stronger players who need more release Unlike the rest of the GT hybrid line, the GT1 comes with 0.335″ shafts, which play softer to help promote a higher launch. The GT1 can be custom ordered with a .370″ tip and the same shafts available on the GT2 and GT3. Compared to the TSR1, the GT1 hybrid has a longer heel to toe to increase forgiveness.
Titleist took feedback from Tour players and made a sleeker profile for Hybrid GT2but remains MIA’s top option in the lineup. Borrowing from the GT freeway woods, a flatter leading edge also helps it stay more on the ground.
In the meantime, Hybrid GT3 it’s also been made smaller for players who want a more iron-like look, and also features the GT2’s flatter leading edge.
