David Moyes is on the verge of being appointed Everton manager for a second time, having agreed to replace Sean Dyche in the dugout at Goodison Park.
The 61-year-old left West Ham United last summer after a highly successful spell in charge at the London Stadium saw him end the Hammers’ 43-year wait for a trophy.
Moyes used to be evertonbetween 2002 and 2013, where he was named LMA Manager of the Year on three different occasions. He left the club to join Manchester United, succeeding Sir Alex Ferguson, but only saw the completion of nine months of the six-year deal he had signed at Old Trafford before being sacked.
The Athletic report that Everton’s new owners, The Friedkin Group (TFG), quickly identified Moyes as their number one target after deciding to dispense with Dyche’s services hours before the FA Cup third round win over Peterborough.
He is expected to sign a two-and-a-half-year contract imminently… Sky Sports claim an agreement has been reached between the two sides, with TFG believed to want Moyes to “lay the foundations” for the club ahead of their move to a new 52,888 stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock in Vauxhall.
Moyes’ first task will be to help Everton stave off the threat of relegation. The Toffees sit just one point above the relegation zone in 16th place, having taken two points from the last 15 available, and will need to improve their dismal record in front of goal.
In fact, Everton have only scored 15 times this season, just the bottom club Southampton they have the worst record and have won only three of the 19 games they have played.
