Juan Soto’s streak is finally over as the superstar free agent signed a 15-year contract worth $765 million with the New York Mets.
After weeks of speculation and speculation about where Soto would sign, Mets billionaire Steve Cohen was able to claim this season’s top prize.
Soto’s contract is the highest in Major League Baseball history, surpassing the previous record $700 million contract awarded to Shohei Ohtani of the Los Angeles Dodgers last year.
Colin Cowherd revealed his thoughts on what the Soto contract means for the sport of baseball.
“You know what, it’s actually great for baseball, it keeps the top seven to eight players in New York, Los Angeles and Philly,” Cowherd said on “X,” via Herd w/Colin Cowherd .
“It was a great day for baseball. Is it better to go to Minnesota and they can’t afford anyone around him?”

Cowherd says Soto’s contract is great for baseball, and his rationale revolves around getting top players playing for big-market teams to keep the rankings high.
The 2024 postseason saw the highest ratings in a long time, and Cowherd says that’s because of the stacked rosters of big-market teams.
Soto remained at New York State, but traded teams after playing his first season with the New York Yankees in 2024.
While Cowherd believes the contract is a big one for baseball in general, fans of small market teams may have mixed feelings about these stacked rosters taking shape in MLB.
It will be interesting to see the different opinions and analysis on the Soto deal as people get some time to gather their thoughts after the big news.
