The much-anticipated second Test between India and Australia got underway at a packed Adelaide Oval with Indian captain Rohit Sharma winning the toss and electing to bat first on Friday (December 6).
India went into the day-night Test match in Adelaide with a 1-0 lead in the ongoing five-match Test series against Australia after a dominant 295-run win in the opening Test in Perth.
In an emotional gesture, the Aussie cricket team took to the field to mark the 10th anniversary of Phillip Hughes and Ian Redpath, who died on December 1, wearing black armbands in his honour.

Note that on November 25, 2014, during the Sheffield Shield match at the Sydney Cricket Ground, Phillip Hughes was hit in the neck by a bouncer brought by Sean Abbott. The ball hit an unprotected spot, resulting in a severing of the spinal artery, causing a cerebral hemorrhage.
Hughes collapsed on the pitch and tragically died two days later on 27 November 2014, just shy of his 26th birthday. His untimely and tragic death had a profound impact on the world of cricket, leading to significant improvements in safety, including the introduction of neck guards for helmets.
Hughes’ jersey number 63 has become a symbol of global tribute, as he was batting on that score when the incident took place and he never returned to the field. Tributes poured in from around the world in his memory with the hashtag #63NotOut.
Meanwhile, Ian Redpath was an Australian cricketer who played 66 Tests and five ODIs from 1964 to 1976, and he was also remembered for his contributions to the game during the ongoing Pink-Ball Test against India at the Adelaide Oval.
