In the run-up to the 2026 European Athletics Championships in Birmingham from 10-16 August, at least 10 events will be broadcast live on European Athletics channels in May 2026.

More World Athletics Continental Tour Silver, Bronze and Challenger events could be added to the live broadcast schedule for May 2026.

Who is competing?
5000m world silver medalist Isaac Kimmel Belgium is one of the star names confirmed for the 1500m at the Belfast Classic on May 9.
Kimmel will step down up to 1500m where he will meet fellow world medalist Ben Pattison800m bronze medalist at the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest, as well as European U23 multiple cross country champion champion Will Barnicott. 2020 Olympic 1500m Final Michal Rozmis also competes from Poland.
European indoor 3000m silver medalist Melissa Courtney-Bryant due to the race 1500 m, and like-minded British Henry Jonas, Justin Davies, Callum Dodds, and: Will Rabjohns Among the participants in the men’s strong 800m race.
Current champion of Europe in 60 indoor hall Jeremiah Azu 200m will be in operation. He will also compete with his Welsh teammates, including his brother Alex, in the men’s 4x100m in preparation for the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, just ahead of the European Athletics Championships.
The first big event on the European athletics calendar this summer is the 10,000m European Cup in La Spezia, Italy on 23 May.
The reigning 10,000m world champion Jimmy Gresier named in a strong France squad aiming to defend their team title.

Grecier will also be aiming for her second individual title after winning gold at the 2022 European Cup 10,000m. The Frenchman could also have his eye on the 27:14.44 record set by Spain’s Fabian Roncero in 1998.
Meanwhile, host Italy will also have high hopes in the men’s race. World marathon bronze medalist Ilias Awani has already confirmed his competition plans and the 10,000m European Championships in 2022. Yemaneberhan Kripa he is also likely to compete if he recovers sufficiently from his victory in the Paris Marathon.

Other early participants include the legendary triple jumper Julimar Rojas from Venezuela, who is on his way back to top form after an Achilles tear forced him to miss most of the 2024 and 2025 seasons.

A full line-up of German stars will be in action at the Goldenes Oval in Dresden on May 31, with on-field events taking center stage.
Stephen Richter and: Matt Denny From Australia will extend their burgeoning competition in the discus, and the Olympic champion Yemisi Ogyunlie and European champion Malaika Mihambo are established for shot put and long jump respectively. World silver medalist Marilyn Hummel also competes in the hammer.

On track: 2022 European champion Gina Luekemper will compete in 100 m.
