Exercise in a simulator it’s a great way to get some reps in during the winter. But as practice in your kicking ass, you might get overwhelmed by the amount of data the SIM throws at you.
With every shot you hit, there are dozens of data points recorded and shared on the screen, which is great for optimizing your swing, but for most golfers, it can also be a bit of information overload.
So when you go to the sim to hit balls, what data should they show you really focus? We asked a panel of 100 top teachers for their input.
1. Low point
The low point, swing direction and strike factor are what I would recommend. Simulator mats offer a false sense of security because most golfers don’t really know if they have the right bottom of the swing. Strong low point shots in the right place, going in the right direction will get you ready for the real world grass season. – Martin Chuck
2. Clubface Keys
Any piece of data related to face contact (ball speed, strike factor, and location) is useful, but it also depends on what you’re trying to improve. However, Clubface data is important to most recreational players, so keep an eye on that. – Michael Hunt
3. Start direction
Starting direction and axis of rotation. If your pulls are starting right and the spin axis is left (or vice versa) over and over again, you’ve created a reliable shot pattern. From there you can work on crunching numbers or fine-tuning others. – Jason Carbone
