Tyson Fury opponent to be announced this week

“We’ll hopefully be in a position to announce that next week, that’s what we want to do,” Frank Warren said Sky Sports.

“So watch this space, and it’ll be a good opponent – it’ll be good for him. He can’t afford to slip up, because obviously AJ has his fight in a couple of weeks.

“(Joshua’s) got to get through it, Tyson got to get through his, and then the big one will be in November.”

Fury is coming off his April victory over Arslanbek Makhmudov at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Warren has already said the former WBC heavyweight champion will take another fight before moving on with Anthony Joshua later this year.

The announcement now looks imminent, with Warren pointing to a serious enough opponent to step up Fury without derailing the November plan.

Warren also used the interview to reveal that heavyweight prospect Moses Itauma is close to the biggest fight of his career against a top-10 contender.

“Moses (Itauma) is fighting in Manchester, we’re going to announce that,” Warren said.

“He’s fighting a top 10 heavyweight, we expect to get the fight we want over the line. Another big heavyweight fight.

“This section is on fire.”

Itauma has been moved aggressively in the past year and already holds the #1 spot at the WBO. Warren’s comments suggest Queensberry is preparing to push the 21-year-old to title level sooner rather than later.

However, the bigger focus remains Fury and Joshua. Both heavyweights have yet to win their next fights before the long-awaited showdown can finally move forward in November.

Fury’s opponent is expected to be recognizable, but is unlikely to be the type of pressure fighter who could jeopardize the Joshua fight.
